His dad passed away from cancer when Kapil was 21.His dad entrusted Kapil with marrying off his sister and building their home. He met his wife Ginni in college. She was from a rich family and came in a rs 20 lakhs car. She used to like Kapil. She brought lunch for him, and Kapil thinks she is trying to do charity. One day he got drunk and asked Ginni if she loved him. They dated like people date in small cities, hiding from the society and the authorities. He joined as backup singer to Amrinder Gill. They were invited to do a lot of wedding singing. One day Amrinder didn't show up. They were kidnapped by the wedding party, but given full respect, food and drinks. They would only be released if the lead singer showed up. Amrinder comes the next day and Kapil is released.He got selected for a TV show in 2007, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. He came by a Kingfisher flight and stayed in a serviced apartment. The show director wanted them to make jokes on current affairs and by observing ordinary people. He won rs 10 lakhs. He paid tax of rs 310,000. He started getting shows, including for Mumbai Indians. Nita was in the audience and could not understand his poor people jokes. His show bombed. He got married after coming back from Amsterdam. Had a daughter Anayra. Kapil found a photo of his dad doing theatre. He realized that that day dad was encouraging him, since at heart he was an artist too. Kapil sings a song for his dad.
